Genetic Influences on Picky Eating: What Science Says

November 1, 2024by cassniks1

My mum says I was a really fussy eater as a child just like my son is, but my mother-in-law blames my parenting, however it feels like I’ve tried everything.

Recent studies suggest that genetics play a significant role in picky eating behaviours. Researchers have identified specific genes that may predispose children to be more sensitive to tastes and textures. Understanding these genetic influences can help parents be more empathetic and patient with their picky eaters.

Now this isn’t an excuse to just right them off, it’s a really helpful insight as to what is going on. Once we better understand where a child is at, more tools will present themselves and this help to cater to a child’s individual needs.
